Today we are happy to publish the 2025 SAAF Annual Report.
The report provides an overview of SAAF’s work in 2025 and showcases the incredible achievements of the organisations we provide funding to. In 2025 we began supporting an additional 31 organisations.
This makes a total of 106 organisations who received funding from SAAF in 2025.
2025 was a particularly difficult year for human rights activists.
Especially those supporting access to safe abortion. The reinstatement and expansion of the ‘Global Gag Rule’ in January
seriously impacted funding for global health services. And beyond the withdrawal of US funding, other government funders of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) have also significantly reduced their aid budgets. Along with an emboldened and well-funded anti-rights movement, this has had a devastating impact on organisations providing health care services, and the people they serve.
We’re proud to be able to say that during such challenging times, SAAF has been a reliable and flexible source of support.
Our grantee partners have been able to resist and persist. The Annual Report contains just some of their many achievements – from enabling abortion access on request in Kyrgyzstan, to opening a feminist abortion clinic in Thailand.
97% of grantee partners surveyed said that SAAF had supported them to connect with other organisations working on abortion.
And 87% agreed that SAAF had helped strengthen their capacity beyond the immediate needs of the grant. In the report we share the results of an independent evaluation of SAAF carried out in 2025.
We are proud to offer our grantee partners more than just funding, but also support in the form of tailored training and networking opportunities, and capacity building in a range of areas such as communications, M+E, and finance.
86% of all our funding goes to grants and direct grantee partner support.
We are proud to share our financial expenditure in the report, which shows the focus on getting funding to organisations working to improve abortion access in low- and middle-income countries. The majority of our budget is used for grants, and thanks to consistent support from our own donors, we have been able to sustain long-term relationships with many organisations.
Our grantee partners are changing and saving lives.
