Our impact

Since 2007

Since SAAF starting providing grants in 2007, we have committed over $78 million USD to 275 organisations in low- and middle-income countries, with more than 85% of our resources going directly to locally led, often women-run groups. Independent assessments have repeatedly confirmed that SAAF’s funding is high-impact and excellent value for money.

Current funding round

Today, we support 96 organisations across 51 countries, backing advocacy campaigns, stigma-reduction efforts, critical research, and the provision of high-quality abortion care. This sustained investment has contributed to policy reforms, expanded access to reproductive healthcare, and vital global evidence on abortion.

Since the current funding round began in 2022, over 500,000 people have been supported to exercise their right to access abortion options.

The International Centre for Reproductive Health in Mozambique (ICRH-M) was funded by SAAF from 2020 to 2024.

During this time they made a huge difference to provision of safe abortion care in Mozambique - enabling safe abortion care for just under 5,500 women and girls.

Our 'Share and Learn' resource provides more information on how ICRH-M tackled barriers to care, such as conscientious objection, and shares practical tips for expanding abortion access.
