SALVADORAN WOMAN FREED AFTER 15 YEARS IMPRISONMENT FOLLOWING A MISCARRIAGE

Maira Verónica Figueroa Marroquín who was one of the “Las 17” group of Salvadoran women imprisoned following obstetric emergencies was freed from prison in El Salvador on 13th March after her 30-year sentence was commuted to 15 years.

The result was following targeted advocacy by SAAF partner Agrupación Ciudadana por la Despenalización del Aborto (Citizen Group for the Decriminalization of Abortion) who have supported her case since 2013.
