Abortion is severely restricted in Haiti. But sexual violence and unplanned pregnancies are rife, so many women suffer from the complications of unsafe abortions.
SAAF grantee partner Nègès Mawon is featured in this article about the fight to legalise abortion in Haiti, and the work that would need to be done for this to make a difference in women’s lives:
“We want the total decriminalization of abortion in the country, of course… But we know that when we do politics, progress takes time and baby steps.… Because we are feminist and human rights activists, we fight for good governance, too.”
